In Schools –

MS Girls B-Ball Concludes on a High Note– The girls’ MS B-Ball season ended this week with an action-packed game between  JMS and CCMS at the high school on Wednesday.  JMS won the 7th grade game and CCMS won the 8th grade game.  I was not able to make this final game, but I have had the chance to watch several games this season and I have been impressed with the determination and “heart” that I have seen our MS girls exhibit.  They have grabbed rebounds, gone in to block shots, passed the ball with skill, and made impressive shots.  All of this technical skill was underscored by good attitudes and hard work on the court…and on the bench.  Thank you to the entire coaching staff for both CCMS and JMS for a great season.  Yay for a fully-supported MS athletic program in our district!

Club 8 Soundstage Produces Radio Play for the Holidays– The Middle School Club 8 program has been in rehearsal for over a month for their newest Radio Play.  It’s a Wonderful Life is now “live” on our website and can be listened to by those who are looking for some student-produced theater that gets one into the “holiday mood”.  Thank you to Diana Larson for her continued support of our students and their growing skills as a theater/production team.  Yay for these sorts of opportunities for our students!

WHS Choir Concert Tonight! – For those of you who have not already made your Friday night plans, you may want to head over to the High School tonight at 7:00 p.m. for the Choir Concert.  I am out of town at an AVID conference, so I won’t be able to make it, but I saw a preview of the “coming attractions” when the Choir came to the Rotary Club a few weeks ago to serenade the Camas-Washougal Rotarians with song.  Yay for a strong arts program in our district!

In the Community –

National AVID Conference Connects WSD to Districts in the Nation- Assistant Superintendent, Renae McMurray, and I are at the National AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination) Conference this week and are finding many opportunities to talk about the work that our district is doing to support all students to Career and College Pathways once they graduate.  We are inspired by the creative ideas we are learning about and the future-driven focus to ensure that all students have exciting opportunities for their futures.  Yesterday, I was presenting with a panel of other superintendents from across the nation and I have to tell you that I am so proud of the work that WSD has been doing to meet the needs of all our students and to create welcoming environments in each classroom, every day.  Yay for yet another opportunity to “sing your praises”!

In the District Office –

Communications Team Works Hard to Communicate Clear Messages:  Special thank you to the Communications team and their clear communication to staff and families about important topics.  They have made sure that we are all “in the know” on topics that are important. Les Brown, Director of Communications and Technology, has led this team to create transparent, timely, and clear communications to our families about topics which are important.  The last several months (and years!) have required consistent and clear communication as we have all moved successfully through the challenges of COVID and safety.  Yay for making sure that we all are kept informed!

Inspiration this week The inspiration of the week goes to the fact that we are heading into the last week before Winter Break!  Thank you to the entire WSD team for your tireless work to support our students and families during the last several months.  The school year has certainly had continued challenges, but your love and care of our students has allowed us to keep moving toward our goals…to see each student Rising to a successful future!  Yay for keeping all of us inspired and engaged!

I hope you have a lovely weekend and that you find time to get your holiday shopping and planning finished!
